Driver arrested after Orlando bicyclist killed in hit-and-run

Orlando hit-and-run suspect

Orlando police said they arrested a hit-and-run driver who fatally struck a bicyclist on Orange Blossom Trail Sunday evening.

According to investigators, Adriana Valenzuela was changing the tire on her damaged Hyundai Santa Fe when officers showed up at her home.

Police said it was a Crimeline tip that led them to Valenzuela less than 24 hours after the crash.

"This is unsual. Normally we took multiple tips in this case, but it doesn't normally happen this fast," said Barb Bergin with Crimeline.

The hit-and-run happened shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday in the 1700 block of N. Orange Blossom Trail.

The victim, 45-year-old Steven Williams II, was riding northbound alongside the curb when Valenzuela changed lanes to the outside lane and hit Williams. Williams was pronounced dead by the Orlando Fire Department.

Investigators said they were able to match parts of Valenzuela's SUV to pieces left at the crash scene. Valenzuela told her roommate she had hit a Taco Bell sign around the time of the hit-and-run, according to police.

"The family of the person who was killed last night, they've got to feel at least a little bit better than the person who left their loved one on the side of the road has at least been incarcerated," said Bergin.

News 96.5 obtained Valenzuela's driving record, which shows nearly 20 traffic violations and arrests for driving under the influence and leaving the scene of a crash.

According to court records, Valenzuela pleaded no contest to her first hit-and-run charge and spent one day in jail.
