Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission released a warning to Florida residents: get rid of your bats now.

Although Florida’s native bat species are often found in natural spaces, they may be attracted to your home or residential building.

They recommend everyone to check their property for bats and begin the exclusion process now. If you do find bats, you should take steps to get a property installed exclusion device before the mating season begins.

“To legally exclude bats, exclusion devices must be installed on key exit points, left up for a minimum of four nights and the exclusion must be conducted when the overnight temperature is forecast to be 50ºF or above.”

Once the mating season starts on April 15th, the removal of bats becomes illegal.

Their mating season will end August 14th.
