Orlando, Fla. — An explosion near an industrial site in southern Brevard County caused a fire that shut down U.S. Highway 1, according to the Palm Bay Police Department.
The explosion happened at about 10:30 a.m. at the chemical facility FAR Chemical, Inc. near Robert J. Conlan Boulevard and U.S. 1.
“You could feel how hot the explosion was just standing there,” a witness told WFTV Channel 9.

The cause of the explosion remains unclear.
Brevard County Fire Rescue said they are helping respond to the scene with ladder trucks and hazmat crews to what they described as a “significant fire.”
