Really? WalletHub ranks Orlando as 3rd best US city for driving

With the abundance of construction zones and accidents on Interstate 4 - along with the road's general negative reputation - many Central Floridians might be surprised to hear WalletHub.com ranks the City Beautiful as the third best city in the U.S. for driving in 2018.

The rankings website compared a sample of the 100 most populated American cities across four key dimensions: cost of ownership and maintenance, traffic and infrastructure, safety, and access to vehicles and maintenance.

According to WalletHub, Orlando ranked third out of the 100 cities for “traffic and infrastructure,” though the city ranked 83 for “safety.”

For “cost of ownership and maintenance” the city earned an eight ranking, and for “access to vehicles and maintenance” the city ranked fourth.

On the rankings, Raleigh, North Carolina came in at number one while Detroit was dead last.  Orlando neighbors Jacksonville and Tampa ranked ninth and tenth respectively.

One News 96.5 WDBO listener said of the survey, “If we’re in third place, then the rest of the country really sucks.”

Another listener, Jason in Ocoee, said, “[Orlando’s traffic] is pretty good in comparison to cities like Atlanta.  I spent thirty-plus years in Atlanta, and trust me, sitting in traffic an hour and a half to go twenty-five miles is nothing in comparison to your traffic down here.  I love Orlando’s traffic.  It’s not that bad.”

Atlanta ranked 49th on the survey.
