A Florida sheriff is refusing to comment after one of his deputies ran over a woman who was sunbathing on a beach.
The incident, which involved a Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputy, occurred Wednesday when the 23-year-old victim was sunbathing on her back on Saint Pete Beach, according to a sheriff’s report. That’s when the 58-year-old deputy, who had parked in the sand near the woman, received a call, a witness says. He climbed into his SUV, turned, and drove right over the woman, according to reports.
She was taken to a local hospital with injuries to her right side and back, authorities say.
So far, there’s been no official comment on the matter from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. A spokesman says that won’t happen until an investigation by its Major Accident Investigation Team has been completed.
