Tropical Storm Bill forms in the Atlantic, meteorologists eye 2 other disturbances

ORLANDO, Fla. — UPDATE: Tropical Storm Bill has formed in the Atlantic.

Channel 9 meteorologists are keeping close eye on three different areas of the tropics for future development.

Tropical Depression Two formed in the Atlantic on Monday morning. The storm is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm Monday night as it moves away from the United States.

The depression is currently located near the North Carolina coast.

Forecasters said satellite and radar data indicate that thunderstorm activity has continued to increase and become more concentrated near the center of the storm.

Channel 9 meteorologists are also monitoring two other tropical disturbances.

One of the disturbances is located near the coast of Mexico.

The National Hurricane Center said Monday afternoon that there is a 70% chance that a tropical depression will form later this week in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico.

Forecasters said heavy rains from the system could begin to impact portions of the northern Gulf Coast on Friday.

Officials said regardless of development, heavy rainfall is possible over portions of Central America and southern Mexico over the next several days.

Another tropical disturbance meteorologists are monitoring is just offshore of west Africa.

The storm is producing disorganized shower and thunderstorm activity, the National Hurricane Center said.

The system could develop over the next few days, at a 20% chance.

None of the storms pose a threat to Florida.

The next name on the National Hurricane Center’s list is Bill.
