Medics in Portugal say they have found the 20th known case of heteropaternal superfecundation...or, in other words, when twins have two different fathers.
A 19-year-old woman tested the paternity of her eight-month-old twins and found they did not have the same dad. “I was surprised by the results. I didn’t know this could happen,” she said.
While this is common in cats and dogs, the odds are estimated to be one in 13,000 in humans. Both boys are healthy and one of the fathers treats them both as his own.
