Residents of Austin, Texas, were startled Sunday evening (March 13th) by 400 hundred drones shining purple light assembling in the sky over downtown to form a giant QR code, in what was a marketing stunt by Parmount+ for its upcoming sci-fi series Halo, based on the popular Xbox game.
The QR code was actually scannable and would bring people to a trailer for the show.
People had different reactions to the stunt, which took place during the South by Southwest festival, with some being scared by it, others thinking it was cool, and others annoyed by a giant ad in the sky.
Others noted, however, that bad actors could use a similar stunt to trick people into opening malware on their phones.
