In April of last year, the Air Force made public previously classified footage showcasing the success of their new “QUICKSINK” smart bomb, which efficiently sank a large cargo ship with a single shot.

More recently, the Air Force has released new footage of the same event, this time captured from aboard the Courageous, the derelict cargo ship that was struck by QUICKSINK and rapidly descended to the Gulf of Mexico’s seabed.

The state-of-the-art munition was dropped from an F-15E Strike Eagle and has earned its name due to its capability of sinking large enemy vessels at a lower cost and with enhanced safety compared to the traditional method of firing a torpedo from a submarine.

Developed through a collaboration between the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Navy, the new weapon is expected to provide unparalleled adaptability against present and future threats posed by maritime aggression from countries such as Russia and China.
