Police: Mother shoots, kills three children, then turns the gun on herself

Three children were fatally shot inside their home Tuesday in what North Carolina police are investigating as a possible murder-suicide, according to a story from Winston-Salem Journal.

Police in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, found the three children shot inside a home, as well as the body of their mother, who appeared to have killed herself, officials said.

Police are not looking for anyone else connected to the shooting, WSOC-TV reported.

Sisters Sakendra Syann Steele, 9; Sakenya Syretha Steele, 12; and their brother, Sakenlo Shawn Steele Jr., 14; were killed. The children’s mother, Ethal Syretha Steele, 40, was found dead in the home of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police arrived to find the house locked after receiving a report of a shooting at 11:54 a.m. on Tuesday.

Police believe the mother shot the youngest girl first, then the older girl jumped up and screamed before she was shot twice. The boy was the last of the children to be shot, the Journal reported.
