In a statement, the Baltimore Ravens said, “We are profoundly saddened by the tragic passing of Jaylon Ferguson. He was a kind, respectful young man with a big smile and infectious personality.”

Baltimore police told WJZ-TV that officers responded to a home late Tuesday night for a report of a “questionable death,” and confirmed the victim was Ferguson.

While the medical examiner’s office will determine the cause of death, Baltimore police told The Baltimore Sun that there were no signs of trauma or foul play.

The Ravens drafted Ferguson in the third round in 2019, and he had participated in all of the team’s practices this year, ESPN reported. Ferguson graduated from Louisiana Tech, where he was known as “Sack Daddy” and holds the FBS record for career sacks with 45, according to ESPN.

On Twitter, LA Tech Football released a statement saying, “The LA Tech Family mourns this morning’s tragic news of the sudden death of former Bulldog great, Jaylon Ferguson. We will remember his God-given talents on the field and his infectious personality off of it.”

Ravens linebacker Patrick Queen remembered his teammate on Twitter, saying, “The last person I talked to leaving the facility. Spent almost every day in the sauna together tryna see who gone last longer. Said it was our turn this year man. Ima miss you bro.”

Ferguson leaves behind a fiancée and three young children, The Baltimore Sun reported.
