In another one of those studies that makes you wonder how they got the funding for, scientists have found that EDM (electronic dance music) with low frequencies will stop mosquitoes from mating.

One of the most famous EDM artists that use those low frequencies is Skrillex and the researches found the pesky little bugs really abhor his particular track, "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites."

Now before you think a bunch of scientists who are secretly ravers just wanted a way to combine their passions, it seems they did have a good reason to look into this.

The particular mosquito they are looking at is called Aedes aegypti, also known as the yellow fever mosquito and causes a variety of diseases.

For the experiment, researches observed the insect's behavior while they played music and while the music was off.

They came to find that certain music, in particular low frequency electronic music, made it hard for the mosquitoes to receive a signal from their hosts.

If they can’t find hosts, they can’t feed and breed.

So if you are looking for a way to keep your backyard mosquito free, try playing some Skrillex loud and proud. Who knows? It just might work for all mosquito types.
