The Orlando City Council has approved a plan to spend $1.5 million to repair the fountain at Lake Eola.

It was badly damaged during a 2009 lightning storm.

The city council debated installing high tech pumps that could produce a Las Vegas-style water show but in the end agreed to take a more modest approach.

"When you start putting in the jets and that sort of thing, it doesn't look the same," said Commissioner Sam Ings.

In fact, the plan that Ings and the rest of the council approved will pretty much return the fountain to the way it looked before it was blasted with lightning, and best of all, commissioners say, is the $1.5 million they'll spend is under budget.
