Orange County offering emergency rental assistance program

Here’s how to apply for emergency rental assistance in Orange, Seminole counties (WFTV Staff)

Orange County is launching an emergency rental assistance program for individuals and families struggling to pay their bills as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

The county has $33.4 million of federal funds available for the program.

“It’s one of multiple rental assistance programs the County has offered to help aid residents during the pandemic,” said Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings. “We wanted to have a seamless transition from the Eviction Diversion Program, which provided more than $11.2 million in Federal CARES Act monies and helped 3,571 individuals and families stay in their homes, to the new coronavirus relief options.”

The program covers a tenant’s documented past due rent dating back to April 1, 2020. Rental assistance is capped at $10,000 or 12 months past due rent. The money can not be duplicative of another other rental assistance. Any such assistance will be deducted from the program payment amount.
