Now this: Gen-Z finds the ‘thumbs up’ emoji to be hostile, offensive

Are you offending Gen-Z colleagues with the thumbs up emoji?

A survey of 2,000 people aged 16 to 29 finds the thumbs up emoji is for people who are “old and past it”...and some Reddit users say it comes across as hostile.

“Gen X people always do it. Took me a bit to adjust and get out of my head that it means they’re mad at me,” an anonymous 20-something wrote on the platform.

Other emojis “for the olds” are the red heart, the OK hand, the poo emoji, and the monkey covering its eyes.

Consultant Sue Ellson says the thumbs up emoji can come across as unclear or lazy.
