A school district in Maryland is taking action against a substitute teacher seen on camera whipping students with a belt.
MY FOX DC reports, a student in the classroom at Gwynn Park Middle School recorded the incident last Friday.
In the video the unidentified teacher is seen whipping two male students with a belt as others run to get out of the way. You can hear several students screaming and laughing throughout the video.
It's unclear what prompted the teacher to pull out his belt and whip the boys.
Since the weekend, the story has gone viral.
Prince Georges County Public Schools released a written statement on Monday acknowledging the video and allegations.
“On Friday, May 15, a substitute teacher used improper actions to discipline students while in one of our classes at Gwynn Park Middle School. The substitute teacher has been removed from the classroom and the matter has been referred to the appropriate law enforcement agencies. Prince George's County Public Schools does not condone this type of behavior and it is not representative of the level of professionalism and respectful conduct of the team at the school. PGCPS works to create a respectful and safe environment for all students and staff.”
