Walt Disney World will not host its Super Bowl parade this year

Super Bowl XLVII MVP Malcolm Smith rides Feb. 3, 2014 with Mickey Mouse in a parade through the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Smith, a linebacker for the Seattle Seahawks, helped lead his team to a 43-8 victory over the Denver Broncos.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Walt Disney World officials announced the park will not host its annual Super Bowl parade this year.

“Although Walt Disney World won’t host the annual Super Bowl parade down Main Street U.S.A. at Magic Kingdom Park this year, Disney will continue the time-honored tradition of featuring the Super Bowl star player in the iconic ‘I’m Going to Disney World!’ commercial on Sunday night,” officials said.

This year’s Super Bowl will feature the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Officials said Disney hopes to be able to bring back other Super Bowl traditions next year, including letting football and Disney fans see some of the winning team inside the park.

The “I’m Going to Disney World!” commercial started in 1987 when New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms first appeared in the commercial following the team’s Super Bowl victory.
