Loved one shares photos of slain 16-year-old shot at house party in Deltona

DELTONA, Fla. — A 16-year-old boy is dead, and a 17-year-old is injured, after an overnight house party turned violent in Volusia County.

Deputies said Deltona High School student Xyrus Zelaya was at a house party on Waterview Drive when someone shot him at around midnight.

Zelaya was taken to a hospital after the shooting where he died, deputies said.

Channel 9 reporter Ashley Edlund spoke with neighbors who said they heard the gunshot.

Neighbors said the area is normally quiet and they have always felt safe.

A resident shared a video with Channel 9 that recorded the moment of the deadly shooting.

Family and friends of Zelaya shared photos of him and said he was a caring, protective gentle giant.

Deputies haven’t said what led to the shooting, or whether they have anyone in custody.

There was also a second shooting victim at the party who is alive but has not been identified.
