This is both weird and cool at the same time.
Microbiologist Melanie Sullivan mixed science and art to recreate Vincent Van Gogh's famous painting 'Starry Night' using bacteria in five petri dishes---and the results are mind-blowing.
The microscopic masterpiece was created for the American Society for Microbiology's first Agar Art contest. Upworthy.com reports that participants had to use microbes as the paint and agar (a jelly-like substance) as the canvas.
Although the 'Starry Night' submission didn't win there were plenty of other creations that will make you go 'wow'! The top three winners include visions of neurons, a NYC Biome map, and a landscape picture of harvest season.
