Orlando, Fla — More than 800 employees across several Universal Orlando Hotels have been furloughed or permanently terminated, as Florida tourism continues to deal with the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic.
In a notice filed with the state, Loews Hotels announced their decision for workers at the Hard Rock Hotel, Loews Portofino Bay Hotel and Cabana Bay Beach Resort. The affected employees are non-union workers including chefs, restaurant servers, receptionists and housekeepers.
The company said the ongoing economic impact of the Coronavirus on the area’s tourism industry has forced them to make the number of staffing cuts they have so far. This comes only two weeks after Loews temporarily closed two other Universal Orlando hotels, Sapphire Falls Resort and Universal’s Aventura Hotel.
Universal also recently temporarily closed some of its attractions.
