A woman and teenager were shot and killed and another person was injured in a drive-by shooting in Titusville on Wednesday night, police said.
Drayontai Mason’s mother said the 17-year-old was playing Play Station 4 in his room when he was shot and killed. The woman said her 25-year-old niece, Teresa Henderson, was also killed in the shooting.
Police responded to 3rd Avenue around 10 p.m. Wednesday when they found the woman and teenager shot at the home, police said. Officers said both victims suffered life-threatening injures and later died.
Officers said a third person showed up at a local hospital with injuries and is expected to survive.
Officers were on the scene collecting evidence until 3 a.m. Thursday. They said three buildings were hit by bullets.
Police said they don’t believe the shooting was random.
“It’s a shame that these people can walk around here shooting up these children for whatever reason, I don’t care what it’s for, drugs or whatever, I don’t care no more, but I can’t have you killing my family,” said Nathanial Henry, the grandfather of the woman killed. “Leave my family alone. That’s all I ask you to do.”
Henry said the violence has to stop.
“This breaks my heart,” he said. “This takes everything away from me when you’re killing my children.”
No suspect information was immediately available.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Titusville Police Department at 321-264-7800. Or, callers can remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000 by calling Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS.
The house next-door was also hit. A woman told me she was on this porch when it happened and said she’s lucky she’s alive. She said she saw the shooting, but didn’t want to give me any details about the suspect or the car. She said she hasn’t talked with police either. pic.twitter.com/LM6aI5VFuS
