VERO BEACH, Fla. — Authorities say a surfer was bit on the arm by a shark off Florida's east coast.

Indian River County Fire Rescue reports that the 21-year-old man had been surfing Tuesday afternoon at Sebastian Inlet State Park when the shark got him. The man was able to get to his vehicle and start driving toward a fire station. He also called 911 on the way.

Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers reports that paramedics treated the man's wound and took him to a nearby hospital. Officials say the man's wound was not life-threatening.
