Seminole County man faces federal charges in connection with Jan. 6 Capitol riot

Seminole County, Fla. — Court records show John Nassif of Winter Springs was taken into custody Monday on federal charges related to the violence at the U.S. Capitol building on Jan. 6.

According to the federal indictment, witnesses reported a Facebook post with photos’s and video from Nassif in which he talked about finding himself inside the U.S. Capitol Building. In the post, Nassif stated that the Rotunda was nearly filled with people, no one was fighting or being violent, and then there was more pushing, so he decided to leave.

Investigators also reviewed comments Nassif made on posts including, one that read, “You know I was there right?”

According to his Facebook page, Nassif owns his own business and plays harmonica in the Black Hammock Band.

He appeared in court Monday on charges on charges of entering a restricted building without lawful authority, and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol Grounds.

If convicted, he faces up to a year in prison.
