Daytona Beach police arrested a man in connection with the shooting deaths of two men early New Year's Day.
Police arrested Anthony Dawson, 30, Sunday afternoon. He's being held at the Volusia County Jail without bond, charged with two counts of first degree murder.
Police issued arrest warrants Jan. 1 for Andre Mayo, 40, who is accused of shooting and killing two men outside a nightclub early New Year's Day.
Mayo is facing two counts of first-degree homicide and is still at large.
The suspect got away from the Biarritz Club on Pearl Street near Bethune-Cookman University, mainly thanks to the help of others at the club, police said.
People at the bar helped the man change clothes before fleeing, Chitwood said.
Surveillance video shows the incident started as a verbal argument that turned violent.
Three men, two from Deltona and one from Winter Park, beat another man unconscious in the street, police said. At that point, a man wearing a black leather jacket and a white T-shirt reportedly opened fire.
“And then you see the first male go down and roll to the curb and then you just see all hell breaks loose,” Chitwood said.
Two men were killed and another was shot in each leg, police said.
The identities of the victims were not released.
