NASA astronauts take Sunday morning spacewalk, show off new cameras

HOUSTON — A pair of astronauts aboard the International Space Station conducted a spacewalk on Sunday to continue upgrades on the vessels solar power systems, according to NASA.

It was the third career spacewalk for Astronauts Kate Rubins and Victor Glover Junior.

During the broadcast, NASA Mission Control Houston lauded the improved video quality of their new high-definition “HECA” helmet cameras, only recently installed in Rubins’ and Glover’s spacesuits.

It’s the first time that a spacewalk has ever been livestreamed in such detail.

The operation officially began at 6:12 a.m. once Rubins and Glover switched their spacesuits to battery power:

It was the first of two such exercises scheduled this week for Expedition 64 crew members on the ISS, with live coverage of NASA’s next spacewalk set to begin Friday at 5:30 a.m.
