Middle school student arrested in Lake Mary High shooting prank

Lake Mary High School 'code red' emergency evacuation

The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 12-year-old male for calling 911 and reporting a hoax shooting at Lake Mary High School on Friday afternoon.

The juvenile is a student at a local middle school and is being charged with misuse of 911 and disruption of an educational institution, both of which are misdemeanors offenses.

Shortly after noon on Friday, the juvenile called 911 using a fictitious name and reported there had just been a shooting at Lake Mary High School.

He told dispatchers he was calling from a bathroom at the school.

Deputies and officers responded and evacuated students as a precaution.

Police never found any indication of a shooter or shots fired at the school.

Investigative techniques were used to locate the juvenile and evidence was gathered that determined his involvement in the crime.

The juvenile was transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center.

After assessment at the facility, a determination will be made about release conditions and an appearance before a judge.
