Orlando. Fla. — As the number of positive COVID-19 cases climb the number of available Adult Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds goes down.
Shockingly, 26 Florida hospitals reported ZERO availability in the ICU Friday morning, two of those are local.
According to the data released by The Agency for Health Care Administration, both Orlando Health Orlando Regional Hospital in downtown and Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford reported their adult ICU at 100 percent capacity.
Additionally, Advent Health in both East Orlando and Kissimmee had only 1 bed available.
Across the state only 1,371 adult ICU spots were available out of 6,064, which is about 22.6 percent.
Thursday the number of COVID-19 cases in Floida shot up by more than 3,200, the biggest single-day spike of the pandemic so far.
But Patrick Manderfield, a spokesman for the state's health agency, told NBCNews.com the numbers are a little deceiving because they do not reflect new beds being added.
Mandersfield said in a statement that, "Hospitals have the ability to convert beds and bring additional ICU beds online in a surge situation when necessary. Within 48 hours, hospitals have the capability to dramatically increase statewide staffed capacity in the event of a surge situation."
According to the data as of Friday morning, 20 percent of the beds in Orange County were still available.
Orlando Health Central in Ocoee and Advent Health Altamonte Springs both show only about a quarter of their ICU beds taken.
