A man who built and owned race cars and helped Junior Johnson win the 1960 Daytona 500 has died.
Ray Fox called Daytona Beach home and was a frequent visitor to the Daytona International Speedway.
DIS issued a statement Monday saying "his presence will be missed."
The 98-year-old Fox was inducted into severals halls of fame during his career.
He was a legendary engine builder who also discovered the benefits of drafting behind faster cars in order to be competitive in super speedways like Daytona International.
The car he built in 1960 was slower than the Pontiacs in the Great American Race, but by following in the slipstream of those race cars, Johnson was able to win.
