Killer of Brevard Deputy Pill sentenced to death

Brandon Bradley March 20, 2014 - Murder suspect Brandon Bradley in court (Joe Ruble)

"May God have mercy upon your soul."

With those words, a Brevard County judge sentenced Brandon Bradley to the Florida death chamber for shooting Brevard County Deputy Barbara Pill to death during a traffic stop two years ago.

A  jury recommended 10-2 that Bradley be sentenced to death.

Bradley's former girlfriend, Andria Kerchner, testified against Bradley and jurors also heard his taped confession.

Pill was shot multiple times while investigating a theft complaint from a local motel. She stopped a  vehicle matching the suspect's and at some point Bradley then shot her in the street.

Prosecutors called Pill's murder an act of premeditation.

Bradley was on probation at time.

His defense attorneys told the jury that Bradley had a history of abuse, drug addiction and possible mental impairment.

The courtroom today was filled with lawmen who knew the victim.
