Judy Garland was 'groped' by 'Wizard of Oz' munchkins, husband claims

Judy Garland's third husband has released a posthumous memoir containing some disturbing claims that the Munchkins on the set of  'The Wizard of Oz' had molested Garland.

People  reports that the book by Sid Luft, who was married to Garland from 1952-1965, claims that the teenager was subjected to groping by several of the Munchkins while filming the classic musical in the 1930's.

"They would make Judy's life miserable on set by putting their hands under her dress … The men were 40 or more years old," wrote Luft, who died in 2005. "They thought they could get away with anything because they were so small."

Rumors about the Munchkins behavior during filming have been around for decades, from wild hotel parties to prostitution and orgies. Garland herself in an interview with Jack Paar described them as "little drunks … They got smashed every night, and they picked them up in butterfly nets."

Many of the Munchkin actors have denied the claims and say while they liked to party, nothing got out of hand. Garland died in 1969 at the age of 47 from a drug overdose.
