Orlando, Fla. — Apparently all Florida natives speak with an identifiable accent and the votes are in: it’s ugly.
The website Big7 Travel has ranked Florida the state with the 3rd “least sexy” accent, only behind Long Island (N.Y.) and New Jersey.
According to the list, the Sunshine State does have some redeeming cities.
For example, Tallahassee ranks 39th thanks to the residents’ “Southern twang” and Miami is in 11th place because of the city’s “sexy rhythm as Spanish” accent, which features hints of Cuban loanwords.
The website also points readers to check out Florida’s top slang words which include “bih”, “No see ums” and “We’re parked in Goofy” —surely an allusion to the sprawling Disney World parking lots.
New Jersey fell one spot from 2019 making it last in the nation.
Some residents point out the study doesn’t specify between the north and south Jersey accent, with North Jersey similar to New York and South Jersey more in line with Philadelphia.
Texas snagged the number one slot, followed by New York, Boston, Alabama, and Chicago in the top five.
