Florida man lands small plane on the grass shoulder of a parkway in Polk County

A small plane made an emergency landing on the grass shoulder of the Polk Parkway in Lakeland on Thursday.

The Lakeland Police Department said the road was partially blocked after the landing near exit 4. Eastbound lanes were closed briefly to load the plane onto a trailer and move it.

Neither the pilot nor the passenger were injured.

Police did not say what caused the pilot to make an emergency landing on the side of the road.
