This man's love of Legos has finally caught up with him.
A judge increased the bail amount for Ignatius M. Pollara of Tamarac, Florida for his recent paintbrush stealing arrest after learning he had previously been in jail for pilfering more than $2 million in Legos.
The Chicago Tribune reports that Pollara, 49, had been arrested in Lombard, Illinois for shoplifting paint supplies from a Hobby Lobby. His bail was originally set at $125,000 on Monday. But the amount was later increased to $200,000 by DuPage County Judge Brian Telander, calling Pollara a flight risk because of his criminal history.
"If he's let go on bond, I think he'll flee the state of Illinois and go back to committing retail theft like he's been doing," said Assistant State's Attorney Mike Fisher, reports the New York Daily News.
Back in 2012, Pollara did a year in jail for making $1 million online selling stolen Legos from various Toys R Us stores. Authorities say he stole $2 million worth of high-end Lego sets with his mother, who received probation for her role in heists.Â
Pollara was on parole for the Lego thefts when he told police he was going to Illinois to visit family. Â He was arrested after attempting to steal the paintbrushes. Police later found stolen items in his car. According to the Tribune, Pollara traveled worldwide with the money he made off the Legos and apparently had confessed in a police interview that he stole from stores in all 50 states in one year.Â
He's charged with felony burglary.
