American Airlines flight attendants are demanding a "recall" of their new uniforms after nearly 1,600 have become sick.
The airline and the Association of Professional Flight Attendants union are in talks, and jointly testing the new uniforms.
"The uniforms which debuted without problems in September are to blame for headaches, rashes and respiratory illnesses," says a union spokesman.
More than 1,600 health complaints have come from flight attendants.
American said the issues were isolated and possibly due to a wool allergy, but are testing the uniforms, and are allowing some flight attendants to wear their old uniforms on a case-by-case basis.
American's uniform vendor, Twin Hill, partially owned by the Men's Warehouse, has been at the center of airline staff complaints before. Alaska Airlines in 2011 selected Twin Hill for its new flight attendant uniforms, but quickly received complaints similar to those of American staff.
New uniforms were rolled out for 70,000 employees in September without issue as part of an uniform overhaul for the airline, which merged with U.S. Airways in 2013.
