Coldest weather in years to arrive this weekend with wind chills in 20s, frost

ORLANDO, Fla. — UPDATE: Saturday to Monday morning will feel very wintry for Central Florida, with a lot of cold weather advisories, Channel 9 Certified Chief Meteorologist Tom Terry said.

Saturday we’re likely to have wind chills in the 20s and an advisory is possible. Saturday night into Sunday morning, widespread freeze and even hard freeze below 28 degrees is probable for a third of the area, Terry said.

A breeze means the cold will have more penetrating ability and plants and pets will be more at risk of cold stress, Terry said.

“It’s best to use non-plastic sheets or blankets to cover your plants, but if you use stakes or can otherwise elevate the plastic above the plant’s leaves this will work fine to keep the heat in and cold out,” Terry said. “Stores do sell freeze fabric as well. Leaves can freeze onto the plastic and damage them. Leave your plants covered up both Sunday morning and Monday morning.”

Sunday night, there were be a freeze in parts of Central Florida, but probably not Orlando, Terry said. Widespread frost will return.

The coldest weather in years will arrive this weekend.

Wednesday’s forecast will feature light showers or a drizzle. It will be cloudy most of the day.

Temperatures will stay cool at 64 degrees.

On Wednesday night, we’ll see mostly cloudy conditions and temperatures in the 50s.

A big front will arrive Friday night with some showers with it.

Saturday and Sunday night will be the coldest weather in about three or four years.

On Sunday morning, it will be 32 degrees in Orlando.

We’ll have a hard freeze north and west in Marion, Sumter and Lake counties. Temperatures will only be in the 20s.
