Apopka police confirmed Thursday that the skeletal remains found at the bottom of Lake Carter belonged to missing Christopher George.
Rachael George, mother of Chris, says she believes that one of the men last seen with her son is the key to the investigation.
“I do believe he was involved in the cover-up of what went on,” George said.
She was referring to James Hataway, one of the men Chris was last seen with before his disappearance in February 2009. He was also seen with Tyler Watters.
Police told WDBO that they still don’t know exactly how Chris George died. They were able to identify the bones through DNA, witness accounts and other findings, according to the Orange-Osceola Medical Examiner’s Office.
In February, police also found personal items such as a cell phone near the bones.
Hataway was convicted of attempting to kill a Casselberry woman and Watters is currently facing charges of drug trafficking.
A memorial is planned for Sunday, July 24th at 2 p.m. in Orlando.
