Florida’s back-to-school tax-free holiday: What does it include?

ORLANDO, Fla — Starting today, you can save some money on the things your child will need when the school year begins in about two-and-a-half weeks.

Florida’s back-to-school tax holiday kicks off this Monday morning.

Costs for back-to-school shopping can add up quickly, with record and rampant inflation.

Parents like Andrea Aranguren are doing their homework and shopping around for the best deals.

“I go on the apps usually for Walmart or Target, and I compare both things. I look at their ads, and I see where they have the best prices,” Aranguren said.

Parent Jenifer Siah decided not to wait for Florida’s back-to-school tax-free holiday and said she spent about $70 on school supplies for her two kids.

The National Retail Federation says parents plan to spend $864, on average, for back-to-school items. That’s up $15 from the last school year and $167 more than before the pandemic in 2019.

Florida’s tax-free holiday runs through Aug. 7. It applies to:

  • Certain school supplies under $50.
  • Clothing and footwear less than $100.
  • Personal computers up to $1500.
