Dumpster diver finds dozens of live fish in a dumpster behind a PetSmart

A TikToker says she found dozens of live fish in a dumpster behind a PetSmart while 'dumpster diving'

A TikToker who decided to try “dumpster diving” for the first time made an unexpected discovery behind a PetSmart store in Idaho. She stumbled upon dozens of live betta fish discarded in the garbage.

Kate Hahn, the TikTok user, shared a video of her findings on Sunday, which has since garnered over 12.5 million views.

In the video, Hahn expressed her shock, stating that the fish had lost more than half of their water but were still alive. She criticized PetSmart for throwing them away carelessly.

On Tuesday, Hahn posted a follow-up video expressing her disgust at finding the fish in the dumpster. She explained that she didn’t know what to do with them because betta fish are known to be aggressive and cannot be housed together. Additionally, all the local pet stores were closed at the time.

Hahn attempted to find friends willing to take the fish by sharing videos of them on her Snapchat story, but no one came forward to adopt them.

Eventually, she noticed PetSmart employees emerging from the store and informed them about her discovery.
