Burger King shocks on Int’l Women’s Day: ‘Women belong in the kitchen’

Burger King UK’s official Twitter account shocks the internet with a seemingly random tweet that reads “Women belong in the kitchen.”

Of all days to send this archaic message about women, today’s International Women’s Day.

But with Burger King’s very next tweet, you see that the ‘kitchen’ comment is not random at all and is a deliberate effort to shock people into finding out more information about their new scholarship program to increase the number of women in professional chef jobs.

While potentially clever, the challenge BK faces is the number of people who’ve retweeted the “Women belong in the kitchen” tweet numbers in the tens of thousands, while the subsequent tweets that explain the shocking message have only been shared a few thousand times.
