Hitch was in the second season of the TLC reality series in 2014, which follows international couples in the United States. The show has a foreigner come to the U.S. on a K-1 visa, which allows them to live with their partner for the first time. The two must marry before the visa expires in 90 days, or the international partner will have to return home. On the show, Hitch married Cássia Tavares, who moved from Brazil to Florida. The pair separated in 2017 and were divorced the following year, Deadline reported.

Hitch, a member of the Army reserves in Florida, was not vaccinated and had no known pre-existing conditions before contracting COVID-19, his sister Shannon told TMZ.

TLC issued a statement to E! News saying, “We are saddened to hear about the passing of Jason Hitch and send our sincere condolences to his family and friends at this time.”
