Almost two years after winning $1 million on a scratch-off ticket, a North Carolina construction worker won twice as much late last month, collecting $2 million, according to officials with the North Carolina Education Lottery.

Phariss Frank, 41, of Davie County, won the $2 million from a $20 Diamond Dazzler scratch-off he bought in Morehead City, lottery officials said in a news release. He collected $1 million in July 2021 playing a different game.

“I called my wife and told her, ‘I did it again,’” Frank said in a statement on Monday. “I didn’t know if I was dreaming or not. I was just in shock for a while.”

Frank lives in Advance, a small town southwest of Winston-Salem and about 75 miles northeast of Charlotte.

“It’s cool because the first time I won it was two miles from my house and this time I was four-and-a-half hours away,” Frank told lottery officials. “What are the chances of me being down there at that exact moment in time?”

For his latest prize, Frank decided to take a lump sum of $1.2 million. After the required state and local taxes, Frank took home $855,006, according to lottery officials.

Frank used some of the money from his first big win to pay for his wedding two years ago. His latest windfall will finance a nice vacation, he said.
