ORLANDO, Fla. — Tropical Storm Hanna has formed in the central Atlantic, but the system is not expected to threaten Florida or make landfall in North America or Europe.
Hanna is forecast to move slowly eastward as a weak tropical storm through early Wednesday before weakening into a tropical depression, according to Channel 9 meteorologist Daniel McFarland.
Warm ocean water will continue to provide the storm with energy. However, significant wind shear over the system is expected to disrupt its organization and prevent it from strengthening into a hurricane.
Hanna will remain far enough from the Atlantic coast that it is not expected to generate ocean swells or other effects in Florida.
The system could find more favorable conditions in the North Atlantic after weakening. McFarland said Hanna could strengthen again by this weekend if atmospheric conditions allow it to reorganize.
