State Lawmaker Educating Families About Childhood Sexual Abuse

Lauren Book is a former kindergarten teacher and current member of the Florida Senate representing Florida’s 32nd District which is comprised of the western half of Broward County.

She is also Democratic Leader Pro Tempore, but her true passion is protecting children from sexual abuse.

Book, who is herself a victim of sexual abuse, has made preventing abuse her life's work.  She wrote a book about her experience being abused by a nanny as a child.

More than a decade ago, she established Lauren's Kids with the mission of preventing sexual abuse through education and awareness.  The non-profit also helps survivors heal with guidance and support.

Within Lauren's Kids, Book created a curriculum aimed at engaging teachers, empowering children and educating parents about abuse.
