The Social Security Administration has added 14 new conditions to its fast-track disability list, bringing the total to 314 conditions that can help people receive benefits more quickly.

The Compassionate Allowances list was created in 2008 to expedite disability claims for those with severe medical conditions.

The program has helped 1.2 million people receive approval for disability benefits.

Social Security uses technology to scan applications for conditions on the list, with approvals often granted within days, compared to the typical six to eight months.

Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano stated, “The Compassionate Allowances initiative cuts through red tape and allows us to deliver support to individuals who experience life-changing diagnoses and need help fast.”

The new conditions include rare pediatric and neurological disorders, as well as some rare cancers.
