SANFORD, Fla. — A Sanford woman, who was nearly shot after gathering with relatives outside of her childhood home, said she literally ran for her life after someone opened fire Saturday night.
“Everybody just talking and laughing and having a good time,” said Shirley Wynn. “And a few minutes after we heard it, it sounded like firecrackers, so we knew then that somebody actually was shooting and we all scattered.”
Eight people were injured in the shooting and two of them were listed in critical condition Sunday night. Wynn said one woman was shot in the face and arm and has to undergo surgery.
Wynn said the family gathered to remember her grandson Zi’Erric Wynn, 18, who died in a car accident in 2020. Sunday was the sixth anniversary of his death.
“We don’t do violence,” said Wynn. “Our family’s not a violent family. My grandson was not a violent person. So we’re all wondering today, why did they bring it to that celebration of his life?”
Sanford Police have not made any arrests, but said the public is not in any danger.
