ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — New records obtained by Channel 9, show a murder suspect accused of raping and stabbing a 13-year-old Orange County girl, went for a swim before his arrest, then stayed silent throughout a two-and-a-half-hour interview with investigators.
Jerry Dorisme was arrested and charged in the murder of 13-year-old Rose Dieujuste.
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Rose was on her way to a friend’s apartment on July 4, 2024.
Before going upstairs, investigators said the teen was grabbed by 30-year-old Jerry Dorisme and stabbed in the torso in the first-floor storage closet.
Dorisme was arrested seven days later and charged with first-degree murder. He was identified on surveillance video by several community members and his father.
Records obtained by Channel 9, reveal a community member called in a tip after recognizing Dorisme at a bus stop on Silver Star Road in Orange County.
Deputies located Dorisme swimming in a pool. They took him to the sheriff’s office where he remained silent throughout an interview that lasted more than 2.5 hours.
The records reveal investigators interviewed Dorisme’s father, who told detectives he was estranged from his son.
According to Dorisme’s father, Jerry was not allowed in the house after an incident where Jerry punched out the windows of the home.
Jerry’s father told investigators he learned his son was sleeping on the street approximately four years prior to Rose Dieujuste’s murder.
During the interview, detectives asked Jerry’s father about his son’s mental health and criminal history.
Detectives also said Jerry was taken for an involuntary mental-health examination under Florida’s Baker Act just three or four weeks before Rose was murdered.
“The deputies found him walking down Silver Star with a knife Yeah, he dropped a knife and when they try to secure him he ended up fighting them,” said Detective Nathan Ventura with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
Prior to Jerry Dorisme’s arrest in July of 2024, Dorisme was sentenced to 366 days in prison for aggravated child abuse in 2021.
Court records show he also previously pled no contest to separate trespassing charges.
State prosecutors announced they would seek the death penalty against Dorisme on charges of First-degree murder with a weapon, kidnapping with intent to commit a felony, sexual battery with a deadly weapon, sexual battery with a deadly weapon, attempted sexual battery with a deadly weapon, and aggravated child abuse with a weapon.
Dorisme was indicted by a grand jury in August 2024, found not mentally fit to stand trial in September 2024, and was later found competent to stand trial in 2025
