TITUSVILLE, Fla. — A pilot has died after a small plane crashed Monday morning in Titusville.
12:24 p.m. update:
Officials said a single-engine plane struck a power line and crashed around 10:16 a.m. onto Columbia Boulevard near Space Coast Regional Airport.
Emergency personnel responded to the crash along State Road 405, finding the aircraft on the roadway just short of the airport property.
Titusville Fire Department firefighters extinguished the fire with assistance from the airport’s crash crew.
The sole occupant of the aircraft was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives have not yet been able to positively identify the pilot due to the nature of the crash.
Titusville Police Department detectives are leading the death investigation and will release the pilot’s name following positive identification and notification of next of kin.
Investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration responded to the scene and the National Transportation Safety Board is traveling to Titusville to investigate the incident.
Multiple state and local agencies provided assistance, including Brevard County Fire Rescue, the Florida Department of Transportation, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Columbia Boulevard will remain closed for an extended period while the investigation continues and a specialized company travels from Jacksonville to remove the aircraft.
Florida Power & Light estimated that repairs to the power infrastructure and electrical service restoration will take several hours.

Crews responded Monday after a small plane crashed in Titusville.
Officials said a small plane went down near the 6600 block of Tico Road, near the Space Coast Regional Airport.
Officials said the crash happened around 10:16 a.m.
Officials said emergency crews are currently at the scene on Columbia Blvd (SR 405) between Sisson Road and S Washington Avenue.
Police said both eastbound and westbound lanes of Columbia Boulevard are closed.
Residents and businesses in the area of Sisson Road and Columbia Blvd should expect to have power outages due to that area of the grid being shut off by FPL, police said.
It’s unclear if there was anyone hurt in the crash.
