One man dies in Palm Bay floods as election day polls relocate

Police warn floodwaters are deeper than they appear as drivers travel on Election Day

Man found dead in Palm Bay after historic flooding, police say

PALM BAY, Fla. — A man has died as a result of flooding in Palm Bay, police said Tuesday as they urged residents to shelter in place if possible.

The Palm Bay Police Department said numerous vehicles were traveling on flooded roads and warned that water levels were much higher than they appeared.

Police acknowledged that residents may need to travel to vote on Election Day but asked everyone to use extreme caution.

“Very sadly, one adult male has died as a result of the flooding,” the department said. “We are heartbroken to report this, and our hearts and prayers are with his family.”

The flooding has also forced several Brevard County polling places to relocate on Election Day. Voters should confirm their assigned location before leaving home.

The department did not provide additional details about the man or the circumstances of his death in the statement.

Shelter open in Cocoa

Police said a shelter has opened at Parker Memorial Baptist Church, 4101 Melvin Chatman Way in Cocoa.

The department said it is working with Palm Bay Fire Rescue and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to respond to emergency calls.
