“We want to make sure that when Americans travel abroad, they are treated with respect and that they’re kept safe,” Deputy State Department Spokesman Luke Ortega told WDBO’s Katie Coronado.

Beginning in 2027, Americans applying for a first-time passport will be able to complete the process entirely online, including uploading a digital photo and paying online. The system will also provide real-time status updates and estimated delivery dates.

A redesigned “Flight of the Eagle” passport is expected in 2028, featuring a larger golden eagle on the cover.

Ortega says State Department resources can also help Floridians prepare for international travel using trusted, official information.
