ORLANDO, Fla. — More than 400 people in Florida have been diagnosed with Cyclospora infections as health officials continue to monitor an outbreak linked to recalled iceberg lettuce.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Florida is among the states reporting cases of the parasitic infection.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says all recalled iceberg lettuce connected to the outbreak has been removed from the market.
New CDC data also shows women account for 56% of Cyclospora infections reported across the United States.
Cyclospora is a parasite that can cause intestinal illness. Symptoms can include diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, fatigue and loss of appetite.
Health experts say Cyclospora infections are typically more common during warmer months, with the season usually winding down around the fall.
Health officials continue to encourage consumers to follow food-safety guidance and check for any recalled products.
